A typical property in Kensington Palace Gardens, central London, sells for £19.2m - 93 times more than the national average house price of £205,985. A single square foot of land in the London borough of Kensington now costs £1,193, figures show. A home in the borough costs an average £1,735,484.

The area is home to celebrities including TV chef Nigella Lawson, F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone, X-Factor judge Simon Cowell and pop star Madonna. There are now 5,922 streets across the country where the average home costs more than £1 million, the study by property website Zoopla.co.uk
